Here is the last memory verse for 2010!
Romans 5:5
And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
Love you,
Nicole

SM November 15
Hello All. I am days behind here and will probably have these verses over the next month. I have had parts of these verses swimming around my head for awhile now and would like to fully learn them.
1 John 3: 19 - 20
This then is how we know we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.
Leanne, how far are you in the Ephesians passage?

Scripture Memory November 1
I have chosen to memorize Psalm 130:5 (NIV)
I wait for the LORD,
my soul waits,
and in His Word I put my hope.
I need this reminder in my life - to wait. There are so many places where we are waiting and we want to be faithful in this time and not run ahead. We don't want to miss anything by lack of perseverance and lack of trust.
Love you all,
Nicole

Late - Oct. 15th Scripture
Hi Guys.
Not sure if anyone is on board anymore??
I am still working on the Isaiah passage.
We are also learning Psalm 139:14 around here NIrV
How You made me is amazing and wonderful.
I praise You for that.
What You have done is wonderful.
I know that very well.
What are you all studying these days? I'd love to hear!
Our care group is going through the "Tangible Kingdom". It is a great study with small bits of homework and mission each day. I highly recommend it if you are interested in expanding the mission you do with any group you are committed too.
Our ladies are studying Jonah by Priscilla Shirer. Excellent study. Amazing little book. Completely moved by the intimate and powerful image of God displayed on those pages. It really contrasts the humanity of Jonah. I am Jonah in so many ways. Humbling.

Sept. 15th
I am choosing a longer passage this time around and suspect that it may take me longer than two weeks to have it memorized. I have been reading a book called the "Tangible Kingdom" by Hugh Halter and Matt Smay and have been reading the books in the Bible by the apostle John. The theme that keeps coming up in all of them and the call I feel from it is to love others. Such a simple phrase to throw out but so hard to actually do. Knowing how finite my love is makes this an almost depressing task. I also want to be an overcomer through the power of God. I want His love to propel me to take the risk to love others - even when it is painful and though it will involve personal loss. God shows this is the way and I want to have courage enough to follow.
Isaiah 58: 6 - 8 NIV
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter - when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

September 1st
John 1:16 is the verse I will memorize and meditate on for the next two weeks. I have been studying about receiving His fullness and being too easily pleased by what the world offers; I have been learning about believing more, about seeking to live a life that brings honour to God, about living by the Spirit and producing fruit.
John 1:16
From the fullness of His gace we have all received one blessing after another.
Love you all,
Nicole
As a family we have also been memorizing Proverbs 17:14
Beginning a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.

August 15th Memory Verse
Hello All.
It is good to be home. It has been raining quite steadily since yesterday around lunch. So happy not to be camping or trying to pack up our stuff in rain. We have been enjoying our last two days of holiday relaxing inside, doing laundry, playing wii. We have been outside basically for two weeks and the weather was just amazing. Very humid but we were close to water and showers. We used both a lot! We were probably the cleanest campers around! It has been years since we camped at Falcon Lake (our destination for the second week). In fact I think it was in our first few years of marriage! Maybe the third year. I don't remember the campsites looking like they did. Either they have changed or I just have a faulty memory. Besides the beach, they have things like mini golf, tennis, lawn bowling, trans Canada bike/walk trail, a few shops, a full sized grocery store and a good bakery.
We did go mini golfing and both Alexander and I got a hole in one! Alexander got his after we finished the coarse. He was getting the hang of things and just thought he would start over again. As he was running away and we were trying to tell him that "no, actually we are to return the equipment or pay for another round. He had already, on the run, hit the ball and "ting" it hit the flag and popped in. We laughed so hard! He was pretty pleased to end the game that way! We called Megan the "rocket". We really should take her to a driving range. Her golf balls just flew! As you can tell, we haven't mini putted a lot. We were teaching advanced math concepts such as parallelism, and angels of reflection, degrees of effort relative to distance...
A few highlights for me personally were having down time with my family away from home. Having time to read, run/bike, and play games together. Another was being able to read Francine Rivers new novel, "A Mother's Hope." She is one of my favorite Christian fiction writers and she didn't disappoint. The sequel is to come out in Fall. I'm very excited about that.
Another highlight was being able to talk about "building incarnational community" with our friends Cam and Shawna Priebe. Taking time to share the risks and fears involved in following the call of God as we seek ways to share Christ with our neighbours, our friends, our families and our churches. We both moved back to Winnipeg at the same time last year and had years ago left Winnipeg around the same time! We have been friends since college and now circumstances and interests continue to bring us together. It is a good situation and our kids love being together. A gift from God.
I came on here actually not to reminisce about the holidays but to mention that I am going to spend a bit more time on the verses I picked for August 1st. I would be moving on prematurely if I picked a new set. I will write them out again.
2 Corinthians 4:8 - 9 (NIV)
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed but not in despair;
persecuted but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed.
Love you all.
Nicole

Scripture Memory - August 1st
I am going to continue on in the passage that I started with on July 15th. I have been dealing with a lot of pride issues this year. This refining process is not easy but God is good and what He does is good! Psalm 119:68. The sermon series at church on Joseph has given new meaning to these verses - put a living example to the passage!
Here are the verses:
2 Corinthians 4:8 - 9 (NIV)
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed.

Reflections on Psalm 119
Good Afternoon!
Megan and I are heading out to camp in a few hours. We are just at the waiting point now - although I need to make some sandwiches yet. I think I need to nap too before I go. I sound pretty wimpy but I haven't driven 41/2 hours by myself for awhile. I asked if Megan's friends could drive out with us - also campers as I thought it might help keep me awake!!!
Just was wanting to offer a spot to reflect on our journey through Psalm 119. I would love to talk through what you have taken with you from this study. I especially want to draw your attention back to pages 130 and 131 in the study guide. Take some time to reflect and share the following:
1. What is one priority area of application, one place where you can intentionally submit to His spirit to align your life more with his Word. Think in specific terms. (taken directly from page 130)
2. Does something you learned about God or His Word from Psalm 119 thrill you? A truth, perhaps, that you will begin to live more and more in light of and bring to bear increasingly in the tough situations of life? Record it as briefly as possible. The shorter it is, the more likely you will be able to remember it. (Taken from the last words on page 131.)
I'm not sure if I will have internet access or not but look forward to hearing your heart on this and encouraging one another to continue our growth - the good work that God has started in us through this study.
So thankful for this family time together,
Nicole

Scripture Memory - July 15th
Leanne and I thought it would be neat opportunity to stay in the Word together by memorizing scripture together. We'd love for you or anyone in your families to join us!
We will "meet" at the blog on the 1st and 15th of every month and share the verse(s) we are memorizing. Let's plan on sharing a bit of history around the verse personally and/or some commentary based on any research you have done on the verse(s). We have two weeks between each post. Be sure to post your verse right aways and then follow that up by responding to THIS post with updates on your learning and meditation.
Also, you may have chosen a longer portion of scripture that will cover a couple of posting periods. Feel free to repost.
When you post your memory verse record the reference, the translation and write out the verse.

Scripture Memory
Good Friday Afternoon!
We are just having an amazing day here in Winnipeg. It has been such a beautiful week too. What a great and refreshing way to start our summer holidays!
Just wanting to check in to see how the scripture memory is going? I recited the passage to Dave on Monday and had a few blips memory wise so I recited it again to Megan today and whoo - hoo!! I think it's good. It is a good passage to pray and meditate on. Thanks for the accountability in this.
If anyone wants, I choose a new verse on the first and fifteenth of each month - we could post our scriptures here on those days to remain accountable to each other? Let me know if you are interested?
Love doing this with you,
Nicole

Week Six: Ready for Every Tomorrow
I know most have you have been everywhere but home this past week and so your thoughts might feel similarly. I am wanting to divide the last weeks work into two discussions if you are game? I thought maybe this post could be more specific to the final 4 stanza's that we looked at this week and I will put up another post to help us summarize our thoughts based on the comments Pam has made on pages 130 - 132.
So for now;
1. Have you experienced the reviving power of God's Word in your life? Explain. (page 123)
2. I thought it might be neat to share when we have experienced peace in someone else's life - their godly example. How was it perceivable? What impact did it have on you? (page 127)
3. Do you ever fear messing up your life? (page 127) Having studied 175 verses of the psalmist's devotion to God and His Law, what do you make of verse 176? (page 128)
Love you all,
Nicole

Week Five: Finding Security in Unstable Times
I'm posting this a few hours before the scheduled day. Our kids our home from school tomorrow. The boys are in the tent and Lauren is in bed with me tonight. We are both pretty early to rise so I am not sure how the morning will go and didn't want to miss out on this post.
Leanne, it might be just you and I starting out the discussion this week and I know that today is a very special and busy day for you. Here are some ideas to get us going.
I'd love to hear what parts of these stanza's resonated with you this week.
Is there a discovery from "Digging Deeper" or " One Step Further" that really spoke into your life right now?
Look forward to talking this through further with you!
Love,
Nicole

Week 4: Are You Standing Firm in an Unsteady Culture?
I was encouraged this week by the Mem stanza - that God is more, God is better. The benefits God gives are everlasting and bring about the character change so needed for daily victory and standing firm. I had such a transformation - a miracle regarding change in attitude this past week. Fear and selfishness threatened to wreck a situation was turned into sheer delight in Him over a number of hours. It was coming to a spot of complete need in God because I knew on my own I would wallow in anger and grow in bitterness. God was so faithful to provide that miracle in my attitude. He heard our prayers and I am so grateful. He is sweeter than chocolate!
What did you learn about the Word of God through the stanza's Kaph, Lamedh, Mem and Nun?
What words and phrases popped out at you as you studied?
In what ways do you resonate with the Psalmist?
In what ways do you desire to apply what you learned to your own life?
Please remember that if you want to add things to previous posts - feel free to do that on those posts. If we have all subscribed to the comments they will show up in our email boxes the same as the new ones we've subscribed to.
Look forward to further discussion.

Week Three
Wow! We are already halfway through the study. Although I found it a full week of study the pacing was easier for me having divided the days. The little things we do to make it more manageable!!!
I really needed this week of study this week. It was so right for the situations. God is good and does good!
Here is the question on page 62, @ the end of the day...
In the Vav, Zayin, Heth, Teth, and Yodh stanzas the psalmist turns the jewel of Scripture (love that analogy!)to show us his delight in and love for God's Word, which brings liberty and comfort, calls for obedience and shows forth the goodness and compassion of God.
What facet of this jewel has shone most brightly in your life this week? is there an area of your life God is calling you to turn your feet from to His testimonies, to hasten and not delay?
Another specific question to comment on:
p58 - Do you know for sure that God is good and does good? Does anything ever cause you to question this? If so, how can you resolve this question for yourself?
Comments on how you processed, "delayed obedience is disobedience." p 53
Looking forward to our discussion of this weeks material. Please again, feel free to take a tangent wherever your heart has gone this week.

Measure of Faith
As I was looking for Bible study material possibilities for Fall I came across this quote by Priscilla Shearer and thought the words were good for us and the thoughts we have taking root in our hearts. It reminded me of one of the comments Leanne had made about the Psalmist desiring that God be part of his life.
I'd love to share stories of when you had (or are being asked) to step out in faith and follow God in some radical way that set you up to experience Him in a way you wouldn't have otherwise?
"there are over 8000 promises in the Bible for the children of God, and yet most of them He didn't place in our hands but chose rather to place them within our reach. In other words, while he could have chosen to simply let us realize them without any participation on our part, he decided to make us have to participate with him, and exert a measure of faith before we could. We actually have to engage with Him and choose to follow Him, yield to Him and trust Him. And I'm finding that it is to the extent that we do this, we can expect to realize God's promises in our every day living."
I'd love to share stories of when you had (or are being asked) to step out in faith and follow God in some radical way that set you up to experience Him in a way you wouldn't have otherwise?

Week Two
Good Morning!
We are doing some serious study. Pam has picked up the pace significantly this week!
What an encouragement and challenge to see the Psalmist's knowledge and dependence on who God is. It has been impressed on me that the Psalmist is clear about God's role in his life and desires to more fully understand God's ways through the Word. He knows how to set himself up to receive God's word and acknowledges his limitations. He seems to grow in this knowledge as new situations arise and cause him to call out anew. The repetition and desire are very encouraging. It is a continual practise that satisfies.
Here are a few questions to get us started...
Comment freely on the week...
What have you learned about the Word of God from these stanza's?
Is there something that spoke to your heart this week from the study?

One Step Further
I am noticing that there is a scripture memory challenge presented in week 2 on page 27.
"Browse through the entire Psalm and pick out several verses or a stanza to memorize."
I am wondering if anyone is interested in doing this together?
We could set a personal goal for the 5 week period remaining. I'm not sure about reward...I guess it couldn't be anything together...we'll have to think about that.
If you are interested let's post our selected verses as a comment to help keep us accountable.

Week One: Psalm 119 Discussion
I am looking forward to the interaction that will come from sharing comments, questions and insights gleaned from this week of studying. I don't know that we have a particular format here.
Here are some questions to get us started...
Feel free to deviate from the questions. Just thought it would organize our thoughts and conversations to put it under a post.
What are some things that stuck out for you this week?
What do you want to go back to study further?
What have you learned that you want to apply to your life?
How can we continually put ourselves in places so we can receive and grow in our love of God and knowledge of Him through His word?

You'll notice I added some "Favourite Links" to the blog. If there are others that would be helpful, let me know. Easy reference that way.
Also, after you post a comment if you press the "subscribe by email" button below the empty post box you will get notification when someone else responds. It is a good way to keep up with the comments in as close to real time as you can when in proximity to your computer. You can always undo that command if you find it too much.

Welcome!
Here it is!
I am very excited to try this format together. I hope you like it.
I am enjoying the first few days of the study. I am having to pace myself as pages aren't divided into chunks per day. Do you all have online Bible's or are you using the suggested ones in the study book?
The chocolate is a great addition to the study! If you haven't added that element you may find it helpful! Although I often have dark chocolate we have milk chocolate in the house for smores. We might not get to use it for its original intent...
Talk to you soon.
